Rwanda’s support for the M23 terrorist movement in the DRC continues to generate a lot of ink. During the meeting of the United Nations Security Council on June 26, the United States of America once again condemned the Rwandan government’s direct support for the M23, calling this action a violation of Security Council resolutions the UN.
US diplomat Robert Wood stressed the need to end this cooperation and urged other Council members to pressure the Rwandan government to withdraw its troops from the DRC and stop supporting the M23. He also stressed the importance of seeking regional solutions to resolve this crisis, supporting the mediation efforts led by Angola, Kenya and the East African Community.
The United States has also expressed concern about the collaboration of the DRC armed forces with non-state armed groups in the east, including the UN-sanctioned FDLR. They called on the Congolese government to fully professionalize its security forces and end this cooperation.
In its commitment to support the MONUSCO mission in the DRC, the United States emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and helping to strengthen key governance, justice, and security institutions in the DRC. They called for cooperation between the UN Security Council and the DRC government to achieve this goal.
It is important to emphasize that peace and stability in the DRC are essential for the well-being of the Congolese people. The United States continues to support the search for a better future for the DRC and calls for comprehensive action to end Rwanda’s support for M23 and cooperation with non-state armed groups.
In conclusion, it is crucial that the international community remain vigilant and continue to put pressure on the actors involved to end this crisis. Peace and stability in the DRC are essential to ensure sustainable development and the well-being of the Congolese population
