The provincial government of Kinshasa recently published a series of measures to combat kidnappings and violence perpetrated by unidentified individuals against passengers in taxis, taxi-buses and motorcycles.
In a statement signed by the provincial interior minister, Gratien Tsakala, the government issued several bans and directives aimed at enhancing safety in public transport. First of all, the circulation of taxis with tinted windows is now prohibited. This measure aims to improve visibility and prevent criminal acts from happening out of sight.
The government has also given clear instructions regarding the limitation of the number of passengers in taxis and motorbikes, as well as the visible display of the identification number of taxis, taxi-buses and motorbikes. These measures will allow better traceability of vehicles and facilitate the identification of drivers in the event of problems.
Additionally, carriers are encouraged to report any intruders or suspicious individuals within their companies. This collaboration between the carriers and the authorities aims to allow rapid intervention in the event of a dangerous situation and to deter criminals from attacking passengers.
The provincial government of Kinshasa also calls on citizens to be vigilant and to denounce suspects and their accomplices. The active participation of the population is essential to guarantee the security of all, and each individual has a role to play in the fight against insecurity.
Finally, the statement ensures that all the security services of the City are mobilized to ensure the serenity of passengers in urban transport. It is therefore important for the inhabitants of Kinshasa to feel safe when using public transport and to take the necessary measures to prevent criminal acts.
