Reinforced security in public transport in Kinshasa to fight against kidnappings and violence
The safety of Kinshasa residents is a major concern for local authorities. Indeed, the upsurge in cases of kidnapping in the Congolese capital has prompted the city hall of Kinshasa to take measures to fight against this scourge.
In a press release made public on June 26, 2023, the provincial Minister of the Interior announced four measures intended to improve security in public transport in Kinshasa.
The first measure concerns the ban on the circulation of taxis with tinted windows. This decision aims to make vehicles more visible and to deter malicious individuals from committing criminal acts out of sight.
The second measure concerns the limitation of the number of passengers in taxis and motorbikes. By respecting this limitation, it will be easier to control the movements of individuals and prevent suspicious behavior.
The third measure consists of requiring taxis, taxi-buses and motorbikes to visibly display an identification number. This will allow passengers and authorities to be able to quickly identify the vehicle in the event of a problem.
Finally, the fourth measure encourages carriers to report any intruders or suspicious individuals within their corporation. This cooperation between carriers and authorities is essential to ensure everyone’s safety.
The provincial executive of Kinshasa also calls for the vigilance of the population and invites them to denounce all the suspects and their accomplices. It is important that everyone contributes to maintaining the tranquility of the Kinshasa population and to ensuring that those responsible for these acts face the rigors of the law.
These measures represent a significant step forward in the fight against kidnappings and violence in Kinshasa. They testify to the will of the authorities to make security an absolute priority and to ensure the protection of the inhabitants of the Congolese capital.
Nevertheless, it is essential to remain vigilant and to continue to educate the population on the behavior to adopt in the event of a dangerous situation. Security is everyone’s business and everyone must contribute to maintaining a safe and peaceful environment in Kinshasa.
