Article: The sidelining of the Alliance for Change is a debate in the DRC
The Ministry of the Interior of the Democratic Republic of Congo announces the list of political parties authorized to operate for the 2023 elections. The Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), the ruling party, is present on the list, unlike the Alliance for Change which protests against a maneuver by the Tshisekedi regime which would tend to exclude them from the current electoral process.
For Ghislain Mwanji, spokesman for the ACh, “we are facing democratic denial, we are facing the dictatorial ambitions of the regime in place which does not want today to have a sizeable party, a party with a leader unavoidable, unbeatable like the Honorable Jean-Marc Kabund in Kabund opposite him.” He explains that their party is within the law and denounces political relentlessness and a violation of the law on the part of the Minister of the Interior.
This refusal is perceived as a sign of weakness on the part of the UDPS, which fears confronting Jean-Marc Kabund as its presidential candidate. Ghislain Mwanji asks the guardianship for strict observance of the law and the publication of their legal texts in the official journal.
This decision could cause tensions in the current context in the DRC, where political debates are often very tense and where security remains a concern. Several recent articles have also pointed to the challenges of an electoral process for the consolidation of Congolese democracy, as well as the need to strengthen the regulation of subcontracting activities in the country.
