“Martin Fayulu ready to discuss elections with CENI to ensure a more inclusive electoral process in the DRC”

The elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo are a matter of concern for all political actors in the country. Martin Fayulu, leader of the opposition party ECIDE, said he was ready to meet with the CENI office at the request of its president, Denis Kadima. This meeting is part of the discussions around the issues that divide the political class on the electoral process.

During the Fayulu meeting on June 25, he declared that if there was no consensus on the elections scheduled for January 23, 2024, his party would not line up candidates at all levels if the electoral roll did not was not audited by an independent firm. Fayulu believes that for credible elections, everyone must comply with the rules of the game.

Faced with the demands of the opposition, the CENI announced the holding of meetings with political leaders to explore realistic solutions for a more inclusive electoral process.

The national legislative elections in the DRC are a major challenge for the country and civil society organizations have called for general mobilization to guarantee credible elections. This mobilization must be closely monitored by the government so that the electoral process is transparent and respects the choice of the Congolese people.

In sum, the political situation in the DRC is complex. The next elections must take place in the best possible conditions so that the country can finally move forward on the path to democracy and political stability.
