“Critical issues and challenges ahead: Preparations for the national legislative elections in the DRC”.

The national legislative elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo are fast approaching. The stakes are enormous and the challenges to be met are numerous for the various stakeholders. The Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, recently reassured about the government’s willingness to assume its responsibilities for securing and holding the elections within the constitutional deadlines. For this, the government has provided the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) with the necessary funding, despite the difficult security context and the war in the east of the country.

Patrick Muyaya also called on all actors involved in the electoral process, including opponents and civil society, to contribute to its success. Challenges are expected, but according to the minister, they are normal and have been part of the electoral process since 2006.

Despite the constraints that persist, the CENI has convened the electorate for the national legislative elections, and plans to meet with political leaders, particularly those of the opposition, to explore realistic solutions and a more inclusive electoral process.

These elections are therefore a crucial moment for the country, and all actors must work together to guarantee the credibility of the electoral process and its success, in the interest of peace and stability in the DRC.
