The Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mr. Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, participated in the summit for a new global financial pact initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron. Co-organized by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the city of Paris, this summit was held on June 22 and 23, 2023 in the French capital. It aimed to rethink the global financial architecture to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement.
Accompanied by the Ministers of State for the Budget, the Environment and Regional Planning, the Congolese Prime Minister carries a message from the President of the Republic in this capacity as a solution country in the fight against global warming. It is for the Congolese government to see all the promises made materialize to fight against the global climatic haemorrhage.
More than 100 Heads of State responded to President Macron’s invitation. This international summit has four major objectives: to restore fiscal space to the most indebted countries to deal with difficult short-term situations, to promote the development of the private sector in low-income countries, to encourage investment in green infrastructure for the energy transition in emerging countries, and mobilize innovative financing for the most vulnerable countries.
This participation of the Congolese government in an international summit underlines the country’s commitment to fight against global warming and to pursue sustainable development, in an international context marked by economic, climatic and health crises.
