The President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi has launched work to combat erosion in Kananga, capital of the province of Kasaï Central. Funded by the World Bank to the tune of 100 million dollars, these emergency works respond to the environmental emergency that the town of Kananga is going through, threatened by erosion.
This work consists of the construction of large collectors, the stabilization of embankments and the planting of anti-erosion plants to preserve the environment. World Bank Vice-President, Victoria Kwakwa, present at the event, reaffirmed that the financing of this project is part of the strong partnership between the World Bank and the government of the DRC with the objective of developing social and economic in the Greater Kasai area.
The visit of the President of the Republic will also be an opportunity to visit several projects launched last year to assess their progress. He will also go to Mbuji-Mayi, capital of the province of Kasai Oriental to take part in the commemorative festivities of 25 years of episcopate of the Bishop of Mbuji-Mayi, Monsignor Emmanuel Bernard Kasanda.
The Kananga Urban Emergency and Resilience Project illustrates the importance of financing social projects in the DRC, which are essential for the economic and environmental stability of the country
