News from the Democratic Republic of Congo: Mobondo militia extends its attacks to Kinshasa
The Mobondo militia, which has been spreading terror for a year in the provinces of Mai-Ndombe, Kwilu and Kwango, recently extended its attacks to the capital Kinshasa. This situation worried the Congolese clergy and more particularly the bishops of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) who condemned the extension of this militia in the West of the country.
The death toll is heavy, with more than 300 dead and entire villages burned, not to mention the thousands of displaced people. The Catholic bishops also called attention to another militia, the Special Brigade of the UDPS, Force du Progrès (BSU) which terrorizes the population of Kinshasa by attacking those who do not share the opinion of those in power. in place. BSU members, who operate as a militia manipulated by political opponents, sometimes collaborate with the police to hunt down political opponents and citizens critical of the current governance of the country.
The government has denied any affiliation between this militia and the presidential party, the UDPS, but CENCO regularly expresses its concern about the existence of this Special Brigade. In addition, the presence of the Mobondo militia was also reported in the territory of Kimvula, in the province of Kongo Central.
The situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo is critical and requires urgent intervention by the authorities to protect citizens and put an end to the activities of the armed militias that are ravaging the country.
