Launch of erosion control works in Kananga by the Head of State, financed by the World Bank

The Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi, launched on Friday, June 23, the work to fight against erosion in Kanana, capital of Kasaï Central. This work will save the city of Kananga and the entire province from a possible total isolation in the event of the cut of RN1 and the railway line that leads to Greater Katanga.

This work, financed by the World Bank to the tune of 100 million US dollars, consists of the construction of large collectors, the stabilization of embankments and the planting of anti-erosion plants on the sites of the SNCC, MONUSCO and at PK 706 They are part of the Kananga Urban Emergency and Resilience Project (PURUK).

World Bank Vice President Victoria Kwakwa also spoke about the importance of the partnership between the World Bank and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She underlined the impact of these works in the region, as well as their addition to the projects of community interest financed by the World Bank Group in the Greater Kasai area.

The President of the Republic has also planned a series of inspection visits to several projects launched last year in order to assess their progress. After Kananga, Félix Tshisekedi will go to Mbuji-Mayi, capital of the province of Kasaï Oriental, to take part in the commemorative festivities of 25 years of episcopate of the Bishop of Mbuji-Mayi, Monsignor Emmanuel Bernard Kasanda.

In the end, these emergency works will not only save the city of Kananga, but they will have a considerable impact on the entire province by creating infrastructures that can sustainably resist natural erosive forces. The World Bank once again shows its support by financing this important project for the region, and the actions of the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi in favor of the development of the country are confirmed
