“CENCO: Congolese bishops call for unity for a transparent electoral process”

CENCO, National Episcopal Conference of Congo, made known its position on the socio-political situation in the DRC. The bishops reaffirmed that the legitimacy of the institutions and their facilitators is at the heart of the political difficulties encountered since independence in 1960. In their last joint message, the bishops called on the people to wake up to work for peace, justice and the progress of the country.

CENCO commends the efforts of the executive, in particular the publication of the electoral calendar and the constitution of the electoral register within the time limits. However, she expressed some concerns about the transparency of the ongoing electoral process, in particular the absence of a tripartite consultation framework to clarify the problem of Registration Centers (IC) not found in the field, the question of sensitive electoral materials held by unqualified persons, the situation of the exhaustiveness of the data of the Registration Centers having experienced malfunctions, the absence of a credible second opinion by a specialized international body to audit the electoral register.

The CENCO bishops expressed concern about the lack of transparency in the electoral process and called on the Congolese to be vigilant. They stressed that a credible electoral process is crucial for the well-being of the country and its people, and urged citizens to be responsible in choosing their leaders.

In short, CENCO is committed to working for the well-being of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and urges the Congolese people to unite to face the socio-political challenges that arise.
