The presidential elections in the DRC have been marked by a tense political climate which does not seem to be easing any time soon. Alain Daniel Shekomba, unsuccessful candidate in the 2018 presidential election, suggests strategies to counter President Félix Tshisekedi and other political actors in the country.
According to Shekomba, the alliance between former President Joseph Kabila and Moïse Katumbi would be the best strategy to curb the advances of Felix Tshisekedi. He is convinced that the two men would already be working on such a scenario. To counter Tshisekedi, the unsuccessful candidate also thinks that it is necessary to use the greed of elected officials by buying them, where Tshisekedi had done the same by changing the parliamentary majority after the elections.
However, the only opposition candidate not affiliated with the political family of Joseph Kabila, Moïse Katumbi, is well regarded as the man who could face Felix Tshisekedi in view of his stature, both nationally and internationally.
Meanwhile, Joseph Kabila, who had remained silent for a long period, announced that he will soon address the nation on various issues in the political life of the DRC. The former president also called for resistance against the ruling regime’s dictatorship, saying he was seeking to save the country.
In sum, the political climate in the DRC remains fragile and political actors continue to maneuver in search of power. Citizens should therefore remain vigilant and expect new developments in the weeks and months to come.
