In a statement to the press, the Military Detection of Anti-Homeland Activities (DEMIAP), an intelligence service of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), revealed the grievances close to Salomon Kalonda Della, special and political adviser of the opponent Moïse Katumbi, currently in detention.
Lieutenant-Colonel Kangoli Ngoli Patrick, Legal Adviser to the Military Intelligence Staff mentioned that the adviser to Moïse Katumbi is being prosecuted for inciting soldiers to commit acts contrary to their duty and to discipline, breach of security of the state and illegal possession of weapons.
According to military intelligence, Salomon Kalonda Della was in contact with officers of the M23/RDF terrorist movement with a view to overthrowing Tshisekedi’s power and installing a Katangese national. During the opposition demonstration on May 20 in Kinshasa, Salomon Kalonda Della was carrying a firearm. This military effect fell in the middle of a scuffle with the elements of the police who quickly picked it up and seized it. The security services also confirmed that SK Della was secured “without authorization” by armed FARDC elements, including a major responsible for acquiring weapons of war for the benefit of Mr. Salomon Idi Kalonda Della.
Right arm of the President of Ensemble pour la République, Salomon Kalonda Della was arrested at N’djili international airport as he was trying to leave Kinshasa for Lubumbashi, after a month of stay in the capital on the sidelines of demonstrations. by the opposition bloc composed of Katumbi, Fayulu, Sesanga and Mapon.
This arrest comes in a difficult security context in the DRC, where armed violence has been legion for several years. Despite the efforts of the authorities and international organizations such as the CIRGL (International Conference for the Great Lakes Region), the security of civilians remains fragile, particularly in the east of the country.
However, positive progress should also be noted, such as the Sino-Congolese cooperation which could be a model for getting the DRC out of the economic crisis, or the launch of the coordination framework for the protection of children in the DRC, a step forward in defense of children’s rights.
It is important that the authorities continue their efforts to ensure the safety of citizens and consolidate the stability of the country, by strengthening the means made available to the army and the police, while working on the economic and social development of the country.
