“Embezzlement of public funds: Congolese elected official Denise Malaji Tshibuyi accused of massive fraud”

Title: A Congolese elected official accused of embezzlement of public funds

The president of the Kasai-Central Provincial Assembly, Stéphane Bambi Ndingo, accuses the quaestor Denise Malaji Tshibuyi of having embezzled nearly 136 million Congolese francs, or 82,000 US dollars, due to a monthly amount of 17 million Congolese francs since the installation of the current office, i.e. in the space of eight months. The quaestor is an elected official from the territory of Demba.

In a letter addressed to the Quaestor on June 1, the president of the deliberative body declared that the surplus of the envelope allocated to his institution has never been the subject of any reimbursement to the budget ministry in terms of retro commission, unlike other provinces. Thus, he invites the quaestor to justify the destination of the embezzled money.

Asked about these accusations, Denise Malaji Tshibuyi promised to give her version of the facts in the hours to come.

This news highlights the persistence of the problem of corruption in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which undermines the proper management of public funds and the economic growth of the country. It is important to continue efforts to eradicate this scourge and to strengthen transparency and accountability in the management of public finances.
