“The Congolese National Police strengthens its commitment to fight against sexual violence thanks to a new action plan”

The workshop to update the PAQ IIème Génération 2023-2027 of the Congolese National Police to fight against sexual violence in the DRC ended this Wednesday, May 25. During this workshop, representatives of police officers worked on the six areas of intervention both internally and at the level of society.

The ambiguities contained in the Generation I plan have been removed, which is a good point to ensure the safety of the population. The Commissioner General of the Police, Alonga Boni Benjamin, proceeded to the signing of the act of commitment of the Commissioners General within the framework of the fight against GBV by the PNC, which will make it possible to increase confidence in – vis-à-vis the PNC services.

“I did my part. I signed the act of commitment within the framework of the fight against sexual and gender-based violence within the PNC and in the population. I will be serious. Any officer who will be retained author of the rapes, whatever his rank, if I am informed and that there is evidence, I will put him at the disposal of justice so that he answers for his acts “declared the general commissioner.

The plan was launched in 2019 with the aim of ending sexual violence committed by the PNC and making a significant contribution to the fight against sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Today, more than 250 police unit commanders have signed the deeds of engagement.

The lack of establishment of a project steering committee by the Ministry of the Interior has delayed its implementation, but the decree establishing it has already been signed by the honorary minister, Gilbert Kankonde. The ministries involved should appoint delegates who will be part of this steering committee
