The official visit of the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, to China, was an opportunity for the Congolese and Chinese governments to discuss the future of their bilateral relationship. The two parties stressed the importance of protecting the achievements of revitalizing their strategic partnership.
President Tshisekedi recalled that relations between the DRC and China have existed for more than 50 years and that this harmonious relationship has left its mark in his country, especially in the field of infrastructure. The Secretary General of the Communist Party of Shanghai Municipality, Chen Jining, for his part spoke of China’s desire to strengthen its traditional friendship with the DRC as well as with other African countries.
The Congolese Head of State also met with the municipal authorities of Shanghai, who wish to become a centerpiece in the Sino-Congolese strategic partnership. This visit highlighted the importance of sincerity and frankness in establishing a new philosophy of collaboration between China and Africa.
Even if the question of the Sino-Congolese mining contract was not discussed with President Xi Jinping, the fact remains that Félix Tshisekedi’s visit to China was fruitful, with interesting prospects for the future of bilateral relations between the two countries.
China is an essential partner for the DRC, both economically and diplomatically. The two countries have a long common history and have already carried out numerous infrastructure projects together. The future therefore looks bright for even closer collaboration between the DRC and China.
