“Insecurity in the Congo: three policemen killed during militia attacks in the province of Kwango”

Article: At least three policemen killed in militia attacks in DRC’s Kwango province

At least three policemen were killed last Saturday in Dimpidi village in the DRC’s Kwango province, during clashes with Mobondo militiamen. The security forces intervened to protect the local population, which was the victim of violence and looting. According to the authorities, the Mobondo militiamen terrorized the inhabitants by killing cattle and stealing their property.

“Of the nine police officers who were sent on a rescue mission, three were killed and another was abducted before being murdered,” said Adelard Nkisi, spokesman for the Kwango provincial government. He also said that a large number of people, in panic, had fled the area, creating a worrying humanitarian situation.

Earlier this month, fighting between the militiamen and the security forces had already killed a dozen people, including soldiers, in the province of Kwango. Later that month, five civilians were killed in an attack by the same militiamen in Tadita, a nearby village.

These malicious attacks angered the local population who denounced the growing insecurity in the region. The authorities announced that measures would be taken to restore order and security in this part of the country.

The province of Kwango is regularly the scene of violence linked to the militias and armed groups that operate there. Local populations live in fear and insecurity, which jeopardizes their economic and social future.

In response to the security situation in the region, the Congolese government has requested China’s support to strengthen security and peace in the country. This initiative could provide a comprehensive and lasting response to the issue of recurrent insecurity in the DRC.

In conclusion, the Congolese State must redouble its efforts to restore security and protect the local populations living in the provinces affected by insecurity, such as that of Kwango, by collaborating with foreign partners who have the solutions to deal with the threat from armed groups and militias
