The awakening of the Congolese opposition: a dynamic that must be accompanied by a structured program
The winds of change are blowing in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Since May 20, 2023, the Congolese opposition has regained a voice and visibility that it had lost since the death of its icon Etienne Tshisekedi. The demonstrations were numerous and noisy, prompting reactions from Western chancelleries. But this is not enough.
The opposition must take advantage of this momentum to develop a coherent and structuring program. The DRC needs a credible and serious alternative to avoid another alternation without an alternative.
The challenge is big. It’s not just about protesting for the sake of protesting. We must propose concrete solutions to respond to the country’s various problems. The economic and social crisis, corruption and financial mismanagement, lack of security and food insecurity must be taken into account.
The opposition must be able to propose a clear, achievable and above all applicable action plan in the event of alternation. The Congolese have already experienced a radical opposition which has failed to convince the population and even less the international partners.
The mobilization of the opposition must be accompanied by a serious political organization and a competent team, which would be able to implement an ambitious program.
The DRC can be an emerging country, with considerable economic and human potential. But this can only be possible with a vision and a strong political will.
If the image of the Congolese opposition has been tarnished in recent years, the current dynamic may change the situation. But it is important to seize this opportunity to offer a credible and serious alternative to the Congolese population.
