“Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde is committed to resolving the humanitarian and security crisis in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri”.

Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde recently visited the territory of Kalehe to provide solutions to the floods affecting South Kivu. But before that, he assessed the security and humanitarian situation in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri during his stopover in Goma.

During a meeting with the military governor of North Kivu and all the security services of the province, Lieutenant-General Constant Ndima Kongba, as well as the military governor of Ituri and all the security services of this province , the international aid workers present and a delegation of parliamentarians, the Prime Minister took note of the situation.

North Kivu is experiencing a very worrying security situation due to the war of aggression and the large number of war-displaced persons. The governor therefore recommended adequate measures for the army to deal with this situation. In addition, Lieutenant-General Ndima Kongba also reported the non-respect of the commitments of the M23 rebels.

On the side of Ituri, the humanitarian situation is very worrying, particularly with regard to those displaced by war. The Prime Minister has therefore promised support from the government, as well as from humanitarian workers present in the region.

The security situation in the eastern part of the DRC remains critical and the regional force EACRF is still struggling to stop the advances of the armed group M23. Despite the withdrawal of some rebel strongholds, the rebels are still active on the ground. The humanitarian situation is also very worrying, with many people displaced by war in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri.

In short, Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde was made aware of the security and humanitarian situation in these two provinces, and promised to provide concrete solutions to remedy it.
