The peaceful march of the Congolese opposition violently repressed by the police and the army

The March organized by the opposition on Saturday May 20 in Kinshasa suffered strong repression by the Congolese national police supported by the army. The demonstration, initiated by an opposition bloc made up of Martin Fayulu, Moïse Katumbi, Matata Ponyo and Delly Sesanga, was intended to protest against the high cost of living, insecurity in the east of the country and the botched electoral process.

In a statement issued the same day, the Alliance of Forces for the Well-being of Congolese (AFBC), a platform close to the opposition, expressed its indignation at the brutal repression of the peaceful demonstration. The AFBC denounced the use of disproportionate force by the security forces, which even abused minor children.

The AFBC, having been the victim of the same practices during a peaceful demonstration organized in Lubumbashi, to demand the release of Pastor Daniel Ngoie Mulunda, firmly condemns the acts of barbarism committed to this effect and invites the competent authorities to punish their perpetrators. .

In addition, the political bureau of the AFBC met at its national headquarters to assess the situation. This political group expressed its support and solidarity to the leaders of the opposition and to the victims who suffered violence from the services of the order.

The political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo is deteriorating significantly, which prompted the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Denis Mukwege, to speak out on the issue. According to him, the DRC is in the grip of a dictatorial drift, which constitutes a threat to the stability of the entire region.

Urgent action is needed to ensure peace and security for civilian populations and to end the violence. The recent demonstrations, the excessive use of force by the security forces and the brutal repression of political opponents underline the need to fight for the establishment of democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo
