The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is preparing to host the Games of La Francophonie in Kinshasa, from July 28 to August 6, 2023. Only 74 days before the event, Actualité.cd has gathered the opinions of Kinshasa residents as to the capacity of their country to host the competition.
Overall, the Congolese are confident about the effective holding of the games, despite some concerns about the completion of the work in progress. While some remain skeptical about the ability of the DRC to organize and manage the event, the majority is optimistic, emphasizing the efforts and determination of the government.
Sports analyst Méline Kanza and student Patricia Ntumba testify to the progress of work and the development of sports infrastructure. The lawyer Christian Zola, meanwhile, underlines the pride that the organization of this international competition represents for the DRC.
However, Glody Makiese remains more cautious, recalling the importance of completing the work on time to reassure the Congolese.
The Games of La Francophonie, initially scheduled for 2021, have been postponed following the Covid-19 pandemic and are now scheduled for August 2023. Several states and governments have already committed to participating in this 9th edition.
Despite some doubts and concerns, all the testimonies collected reflect the optimism of the Congolese people as to the success of this competition and the desire to show the world the resources and potential of their country.
