“Laurent Désiré Kabila and his fight for the liberation of the Congolese people: a bitter victory”

Laurent Désiré Kabila, whose real name is Laurent-Desiré Nkundabatware, fought all his life to free his people from the dictatorship of Mobutu. He succeeded in achieving this goal in 1997 with the help of foreigners, notably from Rwanda and Uganda, but also from the international community. However, this victory ultimately led to his downfall.

According to Germain Akili Shamavu, national coordinator of the club “Vision Modeste Bahati Lukwebo”, Laurent Désiré Kabila has made many significant changes in the DRC, including changing the name of the country to Democratic Republic of Congo and suspending the constitution. He also changed the coat of arms and managed to drive out the Rwandan and Ugandan soldiers who helped him take power.

However, the number one of the club regrets the fact that Laurent Désiré Kabila was turned against him by his former comrades in struggle, a situation which has led to persistent insecurity in the eastern part of the DRC. According to him, Laurent Désiré Kabila did not know the true realities of the country, a shortcoming which was exploited by his enemies.

Today, he calls on the Congolese to take ownership of the struggle of this “People’s Soldier” for an independent Congo. However, the DRC still faces enormous security challenges, and the population continues to suffer despite the efforts of Laurent Désiré Kabila to liberate the country.
