The urban authority of the city of Kasumbalesa, Me André Kapampa, held an important meeting this Tuesday, May 16, 2023 with members of political parties, civil society and security services with the aim of finding solutions to the serious crisis of incivility and disturbances to public order which shook the city for several months. Unauthorized political meetings, demonstrations in the streets, looting, breakage and attacks perpetrated by members of certain political parties have indeed plunged the city into chaos.
During this meeting, 18 resolutions were taken to bring peace and tolerance to the city. The authorities have thus asked the State services to fully exercise their powers, the courts to prosecute the culprits individually, and the political parties to register their members. The bases of political parties along the national road will be banned and political parades will be prohibited in the vicinity of the national road. Political mornings will be organized for the training of members of political parties, and educational messages of living together will be disseminated in churches. The police will also be responsible for acting in real time and any large-scale political activity will have to be reported to the local authority.
These resolutions were taken after a careful examination of the deplorable and disastrous behavior of certain political parties which dared to challenge the authority of the State and sow discord in the city. The parties involved have taken the firm resolution to put into practice all the decisions taken for lasting peace and perfect tolerance.
It is important to underline that positive collaborations between the services and the political parties have been adopted in order to optimize the efforts for a lasting peace. Finally, an evaluation of these resolutions has been planned for a month from now to take stock and adjust the measures taken if necessary.
This meeting marks a significant step forward in the search for solutions to public order disturbances and demonstrates the will of the authorities and the parties involved to work together for a more peaceful and tolerant city.
