Insecurity is growing in Kinshasa. A delegation of provincial deputies met Monday, May 15, the President of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso, to discuss this worrying situation. These elected officials have noted, in fact, an increase in assassinations in the city of Kinshasa, more precisely in the peripheral localities on the border with the province of Kwango. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the tense security situation in these provinces.
Godé Mpoyi, President of the Kinshasa Provincial Assembly, expressed his concern over the growing insecurity between Teke and Yaka, which is likely to have adverse consequences for the population. The latter asks the National Assembly to join them in maintaining peace and intervening with the central government to provide the Kinshasa police with all the means necessary to deal with this insecurity.
Papy Epiana Nzamu, the Quaestor of the Kinshasa Provincial Assembly, adds that to effectively remedy this situation, it would be necessary, under the aegis of the President of the Republic, to set up an interministerial commission composed of the governors of the provinces concerned, elected national and provincial levels as well as customary chiefs registered with the Ministry of the Interior. The purpose of this commission would be to re-examine the situation of Teke-Yaka and the Mobondo militia to find a global solution.
The President of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso, promised that everything would be done to ensure that peace is quickly restored throughout the city.
The toll of the clashes between the FARDC and the Mobondo militia in Mongata and Batshongo in Kwango province is 11 dead, including beheaded soldiers. The provincial government of Kwango has declared a curfew to prevent this wave of violence from continuing to spread.
Faced with this situation, it is more than urgent for the Congolese authorities to find solutions to protect the population and ensure security in the Kinshasa and Kwango regions.
