“Disputed financial governance: the UDPS/Tshisekedi calls for the resignation of the governor of Kasai Oriental in the DRC”

The UDPS/Tshisekedi party from the province of Kasai Oriental in the Democratic Republic of Congo is calling for the resignation of Governor Mathias Kabeya. In a statement published a few days ago, the party accuses the provincial executive of having managed the province in an unorthodox way, particularly in terms of the management of public finances.

The UDPS notably accuses the governor of having received a sum of 37,700 USD and 4,830,000 FC for transactional fines under a vehicle which is not a revenue-generating document. For the party, this constitutes a financial evasion on the part of the governor. In addition, the UDPS believes that the province of Kasai Oriental is in financial difficulty and accuses the governor of not being transparent in the management of the province’s finances.

The General Inspectorate of Finance had also discovered the existence of two bank accounts not declared by the province in which transfers from the central government account had been lodged. Faced with this situation, the IGF ordered the freezing of all provincial government accounts.

If all the province’s viability indicators are red, the UDPS asks for the intervention of the central power to save the population in danger.

In this province of Kasaï Oriental in the DRC, the National Police has been reinforced thanks to new offices and equipment, according to another article published on the Fatshimétrie blog. On the other hand, the Mobondo militia creates a climate of terror in the province of Kwango in the DRC, recalls a third article.

The president of the African Commission for the Supervision of Elections (CASE) has called for the resignation of the president of the electoral center of the DRC, according to another subject presented on the blog.

These are all subjects that demonstrate the complexity of the political situation in the DRC, with an opposition that demands more transparency and accountability from local elected officials.
