The electoral process continues in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) adopted, on Tuesday, May 16, the procedural guides for the operation and training of members of the Candidature Reception and Processing Offices (BRTC) for the national legislative elections which will take place. in June 2023. This decision is in accordance with the CENI’s 2023-2024 electoral calendar, which was presented on November 26, 2022. The latter provides, among other things, for the constitution of the electoral register, the operation of receiving and processing applications , the organization of direct and indirect ballots, the election of governors as well as that of senators.

Thus, the convocation of the electorate for the national deputation is scheduled for June 25, 2023, followed by the opening of the BRTC from June 26 to July 15 for filing and processing of candidate files. On August 2, the convocation of the electorate for provincial deputies and municipal councilors will take place, followed by the opening of the BRTC from August 3 to 22 for the election of provincial deputies and municipal councillors. Finally, on September 1, the CENI will convene the electorate for the Presidential.

At the same time, the CENI is currently working on the external audit of the electoral register and has made public the names of the national and international experts selected to constitute a mixed mission for the external audit of the register. This team will be made up of 5 people, whose objective is to guarantee the reliability of electoral operations.

Despite the logistical and security challenges facing the DRC, the country remains in a dynamic of stability which is reflected in its political will to organize democratic elections. Now that the procedural guides for the operation of the BRTCs have been adopted, voters can expect more reliable and transparent elections. We hope that this process will lead to a result that will reflect the will of the Congolese people
