“Intervention by General Robert Kasongo to put an end to intercommunity violence in the province of North Kivu in the DRC”

The province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been the scene of intercommunal violence between the “Wazalendo” and “Patriotes” groups for the occupation and management of the Kyavinyonge fishery, located on the north coast of Lake Edward. Faced with this situation, General Robert Kasongo, commander of the operational sector Sokola 1 Grand-Nord intervened on Tuesday to ask the combatants of the two self-defense groups to leave the area. After discussing with the local leaders, the general gave a sum of money to the combatants to ensure their return in order to put an end to the battle which was jeopardizing the safety of the populations and the local fishing activity. The general also assured the population of the region that arrangements would be made by the armed forces to pacify the area.
