“DRC: The establishment of a peace commission to resolve the inter-community conflict between the Teke and the Yaka”

The inter-community conflict between the Teke and the Yaka, which has been going on for several years in the Bateke plateaus, on the border of the provinces of Kwango, Mai-Ndombe and Kongo-Central, was recently mentioned during the plenary at the National Assembly . Its president, Christophe Mboso, announced the establishment of a commission for peace, reconciliation and reintegration of injured communities, made up of several categories of people, including the governors of three provinces, the VPMs of the interior and defence, the ministers of land and social affairs, the specialized services at the national and provincial level, the customary chiefs of the four provinces concerned, as well as the elected officials (national deputies, provincials and senators), among others.

Land disputes are a widespread situation in the DRC and the call is made for the correct application of local customs and laws to provide solutions.

In addition, the President of the National Assembly calls on the Mobondo group to stop the violence and come to the authorities to raise the problem. He guarantees them that no one will be arrested and that the commission that will be set up will listen to everyone in order to find a solution to the problems of peace and integration that concern the region.

Since the beginning of the crisis, the National Assembly has already been involved in several ways to find solutions to this situation. A parliamentary information committee had been set up by the office, as well as assistance for victims of violence due to this conflict.

The elections scheduled for this year from September to December make the appeasement and resolution of this land conflict all the more important.
