CENI in the DRC: the secular coordination committee calls on the CENI to respect the credible external audit and calls for support for the march of the opposition on May 20

The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) is at the heart of the news in the DRC. The secular coordination committee (CLC) recently called on the CENI to set up a consultation framework for the designation of a credible international body for the audit of the electoral register. According to the CLC, the CENI tries to circumvent the question of the audit of the electoral register by creating its own audit, and insists on self-certifying the file, despite the evidence of the presence of false voters. The CLC denounces this strategy and calls on the CENI to respect the basic principles of auditing.

At the same time, the CLC announces the continuation of its awareness campaign and moral rearmament of all its grassroots structures to support the Congolese people in taking their responsibilities and calls for support for the opposition march which will take place on May 20. This march will focus on the theme of the generalized security situation as well as the question of the integrity of the electoral process.

The CENI has however announced the start of work relating to the external audit of the electoral register in accordance with its electoral calendar. But the CLC continues to emphasize the need for an external and credible audit.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the news is not limited to the CENI. Several articles available on the Fatshimetry blog address various topics such as the strike, the security situation, the demolition of armed fighters or the risk of losing funding for specific projects.

The Musienene special economic zone is also at the center of the Congolese government’s attention, as is the Lubilanji hydroelectric power station which could offer new development opportunities for the country. Similarly, maternity leave in the DRC is being reformed for equal treatment of employed women, and the restructuring of the DRC Social Fund is attracting the attention and concern of the World Bank.

Finally, the growing tensions between Rwanda and the DRC are also addressed in some articles. The United States recently called for the withdrawal of Rwandan troops in support of M23 terrorists. Current topics in the DRC are therefore varied and reflect the concerns and challenges of the country.
