The governor of the city of Kinshasa, Gentiny Ngobila, visited the site of the central market, commonly known as Zando, on May 12 to see the progress of the work. He spoke with the engineers and the project coordinator on site, who told him that the work was progressing at a very satisfactory speed.
The governor announced the inauguration of the market for November 30, 2023, and encouraged the companies in charge of the work to accelerate the pace so that everything is ready for this symbolic date.
Kinshasa’s central market, which was closed in January 2021, is an ambitious and impressive work with more than 630 stores, several stalls and a capacity of more than 80,000 people on a total surface area of 40,000 m2. The construction also includes a waste disposal mechanism to keep the market clean and functional.
Zando is a major project for the city of Kinshasa and reopening it will allow many traders and customers to benefit from a quality space for their activities. The visit of the governor reassured the inhabitants as to the progress of the works and the future opening of the market
