“The FNI Party is positioning itself for the 2023 elections: alliances, candidacies and challenges to be met”

The Nationalist and Integrationist Front (FNI) political party has just concluded its triennial congress in Bunia, capital of Ituria province, on May 13, 2023. Although the party has taken several decisions in terms of alliance, candidacy and support, he still needs to show perseverance to win the December 2023 elections.

The congressmen decided to support the candidacy of Félix Tshisekedi for the supreme magistracy and to work in collaboration with the political party Union pour la nation congolaise (UNC) of Vital Kamerhe to win the upcoming elections. They also reinstated Floribert Ndjabu as the party’s national president for the next five years.

The members of the FNI voted for a resolution for the restructuring of the party and validated the candidacies of the contenders for the upcoming legislative and municipal elections. The party is now counting on the provincial deputy in its ranks to strengthen its positions and win more legislative and municipal seats.

Founded in 2005 after the pacification of Ituri, the FNI has been actively involved in provincial politics since then, until the dismemberment of the provinces. Despite its alliance with the UNC and its efforts to restructure, the political party must show more perseverance to win the December 2023 elections.

In addition, the political situation in the DRC is tense, and the need to strengthen security to avoid deadly attacks persists. Natural disasters such as landslides also continue to cause considerable damage in the country. Still, there are reasons for hope, diplomatic efforts have resulted in the successful repatriation of a football team stranded in Sudan, as well as the mobilization of millions of dollars to help victims of natural disasters.

In short, the FNI made important decisions during its triennial congress, but it must show perseverance to cross the final stretch. In these uncertain times for the DRC, it is crucial to strengthen security and meet the needs of populations affected by natural disasters
