The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is currently the scene of a deep political malaise linked to the organization of elections. The opposition, represented by Martin Fayulu, Moïse Katumbi, Delly Sesanga and Augustin Matata, accuses the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of opacity in the conduct of electoral operations. The four opposition leaders are thus demanding that the electoral register be audited by a reputable international firm.
In their joint statement of May 15, they stressed the importance of the reliability of the electoral register in the electoral process and the need for its audit by an independent organization to reassure the people and all the stakeholders. They also asked for explanations from the CENI on how it proceeded to compile the electoral register.
The opposition has denounced attempts at massive fraud in favor of outgoing President Félix Tshisekedi and is calling for the publication of provisional lists in the various enrollment centers as well as on the CENI website.
Faced with the crisis situation, the mission of the SADC force is increased to restore peace in the east of the country, plagued by terrorist attacks and natural disasters. Congolese players stranded in Sudan were finally repatriated thanks to an unprecedented diplomatic mobilization, while MONUSCO and MSF mobilized millions to help the victims of Kalehe.
Civil society also mobilized to denounce the violence in the DRC during the dead city days in Beni, while the situation is alarming in the province of Irumu, where food prices have experienced considerable inflation.
Despite these difficulties, many initiatives to help the victims have been launched, such as the Harish Jagtani Foundation, which mobilized more than 80 tons of food for the victims of the landslide in Kalehe. The DRC must continue to rely on national and international solidarity to overcome these ordeals
