The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is facing a natural disaster that has caused more than 438 deaths. Indeed, a torrential rain fell on the territory of Kalehe leaving enormous damage in the city, in particular loss of human life.
Faced with this serious situation, MONUSCO has allocated 3 million US dollars from the humanitarian fund to strengthen operations for access to water, hygiene services, health, shelter and household items in Kalehe. , in South Kivu. This sum will also support food security and the protection of the children of the victims.
However, in addition to this financial assistance from Monusco, the NGO Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) also helped to relieve the situation in the city. Indeed, the NGO dispatched its teams to Nyamukubi and Bushushu and evacuated 41 seriously injured by boat to Bukavu for appropriate medical care.
Many other organizations will also be needed to help the people of Kalehe recover from this tragedy. Especially since the humanitarian, social and psychological situation of the inhabitants remains very worrying.
To complete this aid, a foundation called Lotus has mobilized more than 80 tons of food for the victims of the landslide in Kalehe. Feminist activists have also made recommendations to the government to better manage the disaster.
