The 49th General Assembly of the Global Fund Board opened on Monday, May 8, 2023 in Hanoi, Vietnam. This global event aims to bring together different board delegations from Europe, America, Asia and Africa to discuss financial commitment, organizational performance, and of governance.
The delegation of the African Council, led by Dr. Jean-Jacques Mbungani Mbanda, has about twenty administrators from West and Central Africa, as well as from East and South, to speak of the same voice and agree on the important points of this international meeting.
During the exchanges, Dr. Jean-Jacques Mbungani underlined the importance of the local capacity building policy, the involvement of governments, as well as regional and continental structures such as Africa CDC, to support the African Union. He also advocated for the supply of locally produced medicines.
On the sidelines of the main event of the 49th Assembly, the African Council conducted a series of introductory discussions with delegates from the private sector, the Inspectorate General of the Fund, and the Councils of Germany, France and the United States. ‘England. The purpose of this Assembly is to enable various stakeholders, including voting members, non-governmental organizations, communities affected by HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, the private sector, and private foundations, to discuss organizational performance.
In order to be able to help Africa in the fight against the diseases of tuberculosis, HIV and malaria, Dr Jean-Jacques Mbungani stressed the need for financial support and a strong partnership.
