News from the Democratic Republic of Congo: update on the plenary session of the provincial deputies of Lomami

Dear readers,

We return today to the news of May 14, 2023 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The provincial deputies of the province of Lomami adopted the calendar of the ordinary session of March 2023, which will relate to the adoption of the draft edict relating to the rendering of accounts for the financial year 2022, the proposed edict relating to the genetic protection of seeds of quality in the province of Lomami, the adoption of the budget of the Provincial Assembly of Lomami for the year 2024, and many other subjects such as the control of the management of the resources of the General Directorate of Revenue of Lomami (DGRLO ), the survey on the management of investment funds allocated to the province, and the control of the execution of the Local Development Program of the 145 territories across the province.

As a reminder, on May 13, a plenary session held by the provincial deputies was led by the president of the Provincial Assembly, Berthos Kabey Diyal. 15 deputies out of the 26 in the Assembly took part in this plenary, which comes after a month of suspension due to the absence of provincial elected officials.

In another register, Cardinal Ambongo criticized the regime in place during the inauguration of a bridge in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the face of the economic and security challenges of the country, recalling the difficulties encountered by the Congolese populations, such as poverty , insecurity and the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the east. President Felix Tshisekedi has meanwhile traveled to Botswana to present impressive investment opportunities in the DRC, amid growing concern over the shortage of maize that is reportedly affecting parts of the country.

Furthermore, the provinces of Kalehe and Kwango are in turmoil, with a growing crisis situation. We are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you informed.
