Kongo-Central: speeding, a deadly scourge on the roads

In the province of Kongo-Central, traffic accidents have become commonplace in recent times. This phenomenon has struck again in the district of Songololo and the town of Boma, where several people have been injured and one dead.

On Friday, May 12, a serious traffic accident occurred on the RN1 Matadi-Kinshasa, towards the village Kisonga. The driver of a truck, belonging to the company F.C Congo, lost control of the steering wheel because of speeding. He was forced to flee, leaving behind his attendant who was killed instantly. A passenger miraculously survived and was rescued on the morning of Saturday May 13.

On Wednesday, May 10, three people were victims of a traffic accident in the city of Boma. Two students from the Zola Institute and a student from the Kiveve 2 Institute were seriously injured after the collision of two motorcycles. According to witnesses, one of the drivers lost control of his motorcycle while driving at high speed. According to a victim, the state examination test being in progress, several candidates moved as passengers on motorcycles and went to their center, making this accident an all the more dramatic situation.

These traffic accidents in the province of Kongo-Central are not new. Provincial authorities have identified speeding as the main cause of road accidents. It is therefore time to strengthen prevention measures and educate drivers about the dangers of the road in order to limit the number of victims.
