On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, May 10, an alleged bandit bludgeoned by an angry mob was burned alive in Muanda, capital of the territory that bears the same name. The reasons for this violence can be explained by the fact that the victim was part of a gang of criminals who, on the same night, visited three families and stole a large sum of money as well as several valuable goods. This act of self-righteousness bears witness to the insecurity that strikes the Kongo Central region.
However, this intolerance to crime does not solve the basic problem. Repeated attacks by bandits raise fears for the safety of local populations. The authorities should consider lasting solutions that guarantee the safety and security of goods and people.
In the territory of Madimba, a tragedy occurred with the death by hanging of a teacher of the third year of primary school at EP Kimpusu, a Catholic school under agreement. According to witnesses, the suicide of Fidel Nlandu Kimfuema is linked to a marital dispute which would have broken out between him and his wife, while he was returning from a long trip to Kisantu. This kind of dramatic situation requires the intervention of the authorities to help families prevent domestic violence.
Taken together, these events illustrate the current challenges facing parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They also testify to the need for the authorities to work more on the security of the population and the prevention of conflicts.
