The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, spoke to Congolese living in Botswana on May 12 to reassure them of his commitment to impose peace in the east of the country. He affirmed the construction of the defense system to achieve this, despite the plunder of Congolese natural resources by the M23 terrorists, supported by Rwanda.
The president does not intend to negotiate with the terrorists and criticized the passivity of the regional force of the EAC. He promises a serious evaluation and draws all the consequences of the possible intervention of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Economically, Félix Tshisekedi relies on the local processing of Congolese natural resources before any export to create wealth and employment, drawing inspiration from the Botswana industrial model on the diamond industry.
At the same time, the President inaugurated the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Botswana. He was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Christophe Lutundula, the Minister of State, Minister for Regional Integration, Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisi and the Minister for Industry, Julien Paluku Kahongya.
The Democratic Republic of Congo faces many security and development challenges. Recent articles published on our blog have notably dealt with humanitarian aid to the affected populations of Kalehe, the expected deployment of the SADC force in North Kivu, or even the deadly floods in the South Kivu region.
