“DRC: the opposition regroups but remains fragile against the Sacred Union of the Nation”

The political situation in the DRC continues to become more complex. The opposition, united within the Bloc de Lubumbashi, seems however to present a common front for the presidential elections of December 2023. This grouping nevertheless worries the observers, who remember the fate reserved for other oppositions which did not know resist over time.

Among these leaders of the Lubumbashi Bloc, we find Martin Fayulu, Moïse Katumbi, Gabriel Kyungu wa Kumwanza and Christopher Ngoy. All presidential candidates, this dissidence is likely to be shattered when the time comes to appoint the representative of the opposition against Joseph Kabila.

Political tendencies are divided, support is crumbling: Adolphe Muzito’s New Momentum, Jean-Marc Kabund’s Action for Change or even Franck Diongo’s Progressive Lumumbist Movement have already made it known that they would not be involved of the demonstration organized by the Lubumbashi Bloc on May 20.

Faced with this weakened opposition, the Sacred Union of the Nation could appear as a strong adversary for the battle of December 20, with a powerful digital army to defend its image and its political frameworks.

In the meantime, Moïse Katumbi is stepping up actions in Kinshasa with his allies and hopes to advance his cause during the peaceful demonstrations planned for May 20. But the road is still long before tipping the political history of the country
