Title: Curfew in Kwango: a temporary response to insecurity in the sector
The province of Kwango has decreed a curfew throughout its territory, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., following the growing insecurity in the region. This decision was announced by the spokesperson for the provincial executive, Adélard Nkisi. He also called on the population to respect this emergency measure by staying at home.
Military reinforcements were sent from Kinshasa to help restore public order in the area. The authorities have thus restored traffic on the National Road (RN) number 1, which had been cut off by attacks since Friday.
According to Adélard Nkisi, the situation is under control, despite the attackers who are still in the background. Security forces also escorted vehicles stuck at the Kwango Bridge to ensure their safe passage.
However, this curfew decision is an interim response, and it is crucial that local and national authorities put in place long-term solutions to ensure security in this part of the DRC. Recent violence in the region has raised concerns about the effectiveness of security forces in the country.
The DRC faces many security, economic and political challenges, but it is only by developing sustainable conflict resolution strategies that the country can hope to move towards stability and prosperity.
