The DRC transfers more than 372.6 million USD to the provinces: what will be the benefits for the country?

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has just retroceded a sum estimated at 753,225,695,936 CDF (i.e. 372.6 million USD) to the 26 provinces of the country. This operation represents an execution rate of 45% on the linear forecasts set at 1,661,388,716,346 CDF (ie 822.0 million USD).

Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC, received the largest share of this cash inflow with 168,325,819,118 CDF, followed by Kwilu, with 63,942,974,930 CDF, and North Kivu with 45,037,360,775 from CFD.

During the 2023 fiscal year, the budget estimates allocated to charges to be paid by the central government are in the order of 6,645,554,865,385 CDF (i.e. 3.228 billion USD) out of an overall budget of 16 billion USD.

The DRC continues to face enormous challenges, including issues of kidnappings, flooding, modernization and security. The country has also seen an increase in foreign investment with the modernization of ports by DP World, Indonesia and the DRC signing a letter of intent to develop cooperation activities in defense.

President Felix Tshisekedi made an official visit to Botswana to reassure the Congolese diaspora and restore peace in the east of the country. It is also inspired by the Botswana model to reorganize the diamond sector in the DRC.
