The DRC renews its confidence in the Community of East African States (EAC). During an interview with the Congolese community living in Botswana, President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi explained that Kinshasa had joined this sub-regional organization in good faith to facilitate cross-border trade and allow the free movement of goods and people. This decision was “maturely considered” he said.
The Head of State also expressed his critical position towards the regional force of the East African Community and highlighted the commitment of the Congolese Armed Forces and the support of the SADC Military Force to end to Rwandan aggression. The Congolese President reiterated his optimistic position and kept hope for peaceful relations between the DRC and Rwanda for the good of both countries.
This renewal of confidence reflects the DRC’s desire to work with East Africa despite the difficulties that the Great Lakes region is currently going through. The DRC also finances more than 60% of the presence of the regional force of the EAC on its soil, in response to the request of the East African community for more security in the region. The tense situation in the east of the country requires more than ever regional cooperation to find a peaceful solution and ensure the safety of the populations.
