Title: SADC regional force soon to be deployed in the DRC to restore peace and security in the east of the country
On May 8, at a summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), a decision was taken to deploy a regional force in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with the aim of supporting the restoration of peace and security in the east of the country.
Christophe Lutundula Apala, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Francophonie, said that this force will be deployed “as soon as possible”. However, it is necessary to be well prepared by coordinating all active initiatives in the region, and by preparing the practical arrangements by contacting the SADC Executive Secretariat.
The SADC force will be deployed before the end of June and will need to coordinate with all other peace initiatives active in the region. Indeed, in a context of mistrust between the forces of the EAC and the Congolese government, the details on which it is necessary to work are numerous: “It can be said without exaggerating in one way or another that by June 15 or 20 will be possible. You have to take into account all my nuances, ”said Christophe Lutundula Apala.
In conclusion, the DRC can count on the mobilization of SADC to restore peace, security and stability in the east of the country.
