Michela Wrong sheds light on the underside of the assassination of Patrick Karegeya in “Rwanda, assassin without borders”

Journalist Michela Wrong presented her book “Rwanda, assassin sans frontières” at the University of Kinshasa during an event organized by the Student Coordination and the Café Juridique. This book tells the story of Patrick Karegeya, an opponent assassinated on the orders of Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

Michela Wrong’s presentation was well attended by students, who asked many questions about the author’s safety and her relationship with the UK. Michela Wrong revealed that her book had received no financial or moral support from any country or human rights association.

According to her, Western governments are not ready to let go of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who enjoys strong support from France and the United Kingdom.

Michela Wrong also pointed out that Paul Kagame’s regime had sold a beautiful image of Rwanda which does not correspond to reality. She thus accused President Kagame of rigging the elections and benefiting from the support of Europe, despite a lack of freedom and transparency in his country.

Despite these criticisms, Michela Wrong acknowledged that Congolese politics had brought significant changes in recent years, turning the world upside down. She also pointed out that her book had aroused great interest in Europe and England, where people know little about African history.

The debate with the students of the University of Kinshasa was very lively, and Michela Wrong said she was delighted with the support the public gave her. She will continue her tour with a meeting with the Congolese and Rwandan community in Brussels.

In short, Michela Wrong’s presentation was an opportunity for the students of the University of Kinshasa to discuss a topic that concerns them directly, in a country where freedom of expression and political transparency are still fragile.
