“Historic meeting between the presidents of the DRC and the Republic of Congo to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss important topics”

News from the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo is marked by a historic meeting between the President of the DRC, Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, and his Congolese counterpart Denis Sassou N’Guesso. This courtesy visit, which began last Saturday, is part of the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries. The two heads of state had a face-to-face meeting this Sunday, May 14.

Several topics were discussed, including the humanitarian issue. Félix Tshisekedi had sent a delegation on a mission to investigate the precarious situation in which Congolese fleeing community conflicts between Teke and Yaka live in certain territories of the Republic of Congo.

At the regional level, discussions focused on the evolution of the security situation in eastern DRC, a sensitive and complex region. Denis Sassou N’Guesso and Paul Kagame having strong ties, this meeting could also be an opportunity for the two countries to strengthen their cooperation in various fields, such as agriculture, where agreements were signed a few weeks.

In parallel with this meeting, the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) came to add its two cents to the news by appointing Félix Tshisekedi as facilitator designated by the region for the Chadian crisis.

Finally, internally, the DRC must face many challenges, including deadly floods, the increase in sexual violence and the corn flour crisis which threatens the food security of the Congolese. Despite everything, the Congolese government is not giving up and recently passed six credit ratification bills to stimulate economic and social development.
