Three people, including two women, lost their lives in a traffic accident that occurred this Saturday, March 13, 2023 on National Road number 2 in Bukavu (South Kivu). A bus carrying 13 people came off the road and ended up in the Lycée Wima concession. According to the president of the municipal civil society of Kadutu, Hypocrate Marume, the balance sheet shows three dead and nine wounded. The victims were transported to various medical facilities in the region for treatment.
The head of Nyakaliba district, Faustin Buroko, confirmed the assessment by specifying that the road is in an advanced state of disrepair despite the promises of improvement made by the VPM of economy Vital Kamerhe during his recent stay in the city. Unfortunately, the work has not yet started.
This tragic accident came as the region faces a series of challenges, including flooding, health risks, violence and political instability. The OVD is working with other organizations to help restore peace and security in the region, while the DRC is engaged in negotiations to repatriate Congolese refugees settled in Rwanda.
The region has also seen several violent clashes between the FADRC and the Mobondo militia. Despite the presence of the UAE regional force, the situation remains tense and President Felix Tshisekedi has issued an ultimatum for the departure of foreign troops.
It is important to stress that spreading false information on social networks can have harmful consequences, as was the case recently when misinformation about a landslide was published. So let’s stay vigilant and don’t share false information.
