In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the New Congolese Civil Society (NSCC) is sounding the alarm about the safety of the inhabitants of the Babila Babombi chiefdom, in the territory of Mambasa. According to Gilbert Kasereka Sivamwenda, fourteen civilians were kidnapped by Ugandan rebels of the Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF) at the beginning of May. Unfortunately, five of these people are said to have lost their lives during the incursions of jihadists in the region, more specifically in the Bangole groupement and in Makumo, south of the center of Mambasa. Faced with this critical situation, the coordination of the New Congolese Civil Society encourages the army to intensify patrols to deal with the enemies of peace, while the population is invited to increase its vigilance given that the rebels are still visible in of the surrounding forests.
It is urgent that the local authorities take into account this resurgence of terrorist invasions in order to preserve the safety of the inhabitants. This situation is all the more alarming as the Mambasa region shares the border between several provinces of the country. The authorities must therefore work together to strengthen the safety of the population.
It should also be noted that this situation highlights the urgency of supporting humanitarian initiatives to help reintegrate people affected by these armed conflicts. Furthermore, the international community has an important role to play in supporting the efforts of the Congolese government to bring peace to the region.
In this context, POLITICO.CD also informs us that the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi recently paid a visit to Botswana to reassure his compatriots about peace in eastern DRC. The Congolese authorities have also signed a military cooperation agreement with Indonesia, in order to strengthen the Congolese defense. Despite social crises and electoral challenges, the DRC continues its struggle for peace and security for its inhabitants.
Finally, the UN allocated 3 million dollars to meet the needs of the victims of Kalehe, victims of the deadly floods. The DRC is also making efforts to stimulate its economy and improve its development, in particular by financing more than 60% of the regional force in the east of the country.
Faced with these challenges, the Democratic Republic of Congo must remain united to guarantee a peaceful future for its inhabitants.
