On Friday, May 12, 2023, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, announced the declaration of Kalehe, located in the province of South Kivu, “disaster zone”. The Head of Government took this decision in consultation with the Head of State, on the basis of a field report as well as proposals from the Deputy Prime Minister of the Interior.
