The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has announced a large-scale intervention to restore peace in Maluku, Kwamouth and Kisangani, areas increasingly exposed to intercommunal violence. This security operation was initiated by Prime Minister Sama Lukonde, during a meeting with the heads of the defense and security services.
This decision follows the various violence that has shaken the DRC in recent times, in particular the recent conflicts between the Mbole and Lengola communities in Kisangani, as well as the ongoing violence in the Kwamouth region, where the Teke community and the Yaka community have been playing since June 2022.
The Congolese government has made it clear that this large-scale operation aims to restore state authority and end the insecurity that affects the daily lives of many inhabitants of these areas. The defense and security forces have been instructed to launch operations to neutralize the armed groups present, in order to restore peace and security.
This inter-community violence has led to several deaths, plunging the population into anguish and fear. To deal with this situation, the Congolese authorities are now considering concrete actions to restore order in these areas plagued by insecurity.
In short, faithful to its mission, the Congolese government is fighting to establish peace and security in all regions of the country. Let’s hope that this large-scale operation will succeed in restoring peace to these areas.
