The Congolese government transfers more than 370 million dollars to the provinces to improve the living conditions of the populations

The Congolese government has transferred the sum of 753,225,695,936 CDF, or $372.6 million, to the 26 provinces of the country. This is part of the budget forecast allocated to charges to be paid by the central government in 2023. In total, the budget forecast is in the order of CDF 6,645,554,865,385 (US$3.228 billion) out of a global figure that reaches 16 billion dollars.

According to official sources, the rate of execution of these budget forecasts for the moment is 45%. Kinshasa, the capital of the country, is the one that received the largest sum, 168,325,819,118 CDF, followed by Kwilu with 63,942,974,930 CDF, North Kivu with 45,037,360,775 CDF, Kongo Central with 43 862,332,935 CDF or South Kivu with 39,676,812,784 CDF. The Kwango meanwhile received 27,913,175,625 CDF.

These funds were returned to the provinces with a view to meeting the immediate needs of local populations. The redistribution of these sums is part of the vision of the Congolese President, Félix Tshisekedi, who has made the improvement of living conditions in the provinces one of the major axes of his mandate.

This retrocession comes in a context where several provinces of the country are facing growing insecurity. In North Kivu, for example, attacks by the Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF), an armed group of Ugandan origin, have increased dramatically in recent days, reaching alarming numbers.

Despite the difficulties, several actions are carried out by the government to improve the living conditions of the populations in the provinces: mobilization in favor of the populations affected by the humanitarian crisis, restructuring of the diamond-image sector, boost of commercial relations between the DRC and Botswana, and many others, available on Fatshimëtrie’s blog
